Viva Nuestra Señora Candelaria!--This is the outcry of Cabadbaranons who will be celebrating this years fiesta. It's Dagkot Festival once again and the streets of my hometown will be filled with colourful banderitas.

Dagkot Festival  is a week long celebration of Cabadbaranons in honor to our Patron Saint “Nuestra Señora Candelaria” fiesta celebration and is celebrated every 2nd day of February. As a tradition, the highlight of the festival is the street dancing competition more popularly known as the “Dagkot Street Dancing Competition” which had its concept taken from the City’s religious tradition; “Dagkot” is a vernacular word which means “to light”. With the City’s huge influence of Christianity, the word “Dagkot” is a traditional religious practice of showing praise and thanksgiving. It is believed that the lighting of a candle is a Christian act of offering our aspirations and lifting up our prayers to God.

Everyone is invited. Let's celebrate.
